Mediation in divorce, compared to solicitors and courts
As anyone who has previously been involved in a legal dispute will be aware, the costs of legal action can rapidly mount and within a family law setting it is not unusual for disputes about finances or arrangements for the children to cost well in excess of £10,000-£20,000 per person.
At Godalming Family Mediation we offer competitive and transparent rates whilst also offering a high quality service. Our rates are as follows and please also refer to the notes under the table:
Godalming | ||
Mediation | £120 per person per hour
MIAM | £120 | |
Signing court form | £60 | |
Contacting other party | £60
MIAM + contacting other party + signing court form | £180 |
Notes:
- There is no VAT to add to these rates.
- “MIAM” stands for a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting.
Please note that, if one of the issues being mediated involves child arrangements, we are able to offer you access to the government mediation voucher scheme that allows funding of up to £500 towards a mediation case (i.e. £250 per person). More details can be found here.
We aim to reach a conclusion to the mediation process within approximately 2 to 4 sessions of 1 to 2 hours each. Depending upon the nature of the issues, it may be necessary for some documents to be drafted to set out the outcomes of the mediation process, for which the same hourly rate is charged and it can be expected that this will take approximately 2 to 4 hours per person to prepare. This means that the final cost of resolution through mediation is invariably only a small fraction of the potential cost of resolving matters through solicitors and / or the Courts.
It is important to understand that in more complicated cases it may be necessary to run additional sessions. It may also be possible to facilitate agreements within a single session for more straightforward matters and we are committed to keeping you updated on the likely costs on a regular basis as we proceed through the mediation process with you.
